LuKII

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The LuKII (pronounced Luki) - LOCKSS and KOPAL Infrastructure and Interoperability project is a project funded by the German Research Foundation ( DFG ).

aims

The aim of the project is to build an infrastructure for inexpensive digital long-term archiving in Germany . This includes the creation of a German private LOCKSS network (Private LOCKSS Network - PLN) including a German-speaking competence center that is responsible for basic questions about digital long-term archiving, installation and operation of so-called LOCKSS boxes and the development and configuration of plugins for various target systems is available for advice. In addition to the English-speaking locations in Stanford and Edinburgh , a third support location will be set up that is specially tailored to the German-speaking area.

In addition to creating the necessary infrastructure for cost-effective and efficient digital long-term archiving, the combination of functions from the two existing systems LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and KOPAL / koLibRI is another goal. For this purpose, an interoperability prototype is being developed that combines the advantages of bit stream storage from LOCKSS and migration management from KOPAL / koLibRI. In a third step, the functionality of the prototype using data from the German Open Access - repositories tested. This is initially done with previously clearly defined content from the open access document servers of the partner institutions involved. In addition, as part of the LuKII project , the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin will participate in Controlled LOCKSS ( CLOCKSS ), a dark archive consisting of the publications of international publishers such as Elsevier , Taylor & Francis and Wiley-Blackwell. The Humboldt University of Berlin - represented by Peter Schirmbacher - is the first European partner in the CLOCKSS network.

Employee

The Institute for Library and Information Science as well as the Computer and Media Service of the Humboldt University of Berlin and the German National Library are involved in the LuKII project .

Project partner

There is already a fully functional German private LOCKSS network between the LuKII partners. The following institutions are currently involved in this network and have successfully put their LOCKSS boxes into operation:

The following partners are also involved in the project, but have not yet activated their LOCKSS box.
