The German Liver Foundation deals with the human liver , liver diseases and their treatments. Its aim is to improve patient care through research funding and research networking and to increase public awareness of liver diseases so that they can be recognized and cured earlier. The foundation also provides information and advice for those affected and their families on medical issues.

The “Competence Network Hepatitis” was created in 2002 with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It promotes nationwide research into liver inflammation (hepatitis) caused by viruses. Treatment options and education are to be improved through collaboration between experts and those affected.

The foundation, established in 2006, supports the Hepatitis Competence Network and its projects. This includes the HepNet Study House , which is conducting studies to improve the treatment of liver disease. Central tissue and serum banks provide data for research into diseases. In addition, the German Liver Foundation brings together research networks on topics such as genetics , immunology and virology . In addition, a nationwide association on the subject of acute liver failure was founded.

Research funding

The foundation promotes research in the field of the liver and liver diseases. The focus is on the infrastructure and coordination of the projects. The German Liver Foundation also awards individual scholarships. In addition to the HepNet Journal , which is published twice a year , the HepNet Symposium takes place once a year.

Information and advice

The foundation provides information about the liver and liver diseases with various information materials. In addition to the printed information, a telephone consultation is also offered.
