The German Myasthenia Society eV (DMG) is a non-profit association with approx. 3400 members for people who suffer from myasthenia gravis .
The seat and the office are in Bremen . The association is a member of the federal working group BAG-Selbsthilfe , the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband and the European Myasthenia Gravis Association .
history
The association was founded on April 18, 1986 in Göppingen . Founding members were Marianne and Günther Wöhrle, Ingeborg and Hermann Carle, Waltraud and Bernd Maier as well as Mr. Walter and Friedrich Schumm. The entry in the register of associations took place in Ettlingen. The elected chairmen since DMG was founded have been:
- 1986 - 1993 Günther Wöhrle,
- 1993 - 2003 Rosemarie Amann,
- 2003 - 2007 Helmuth Wildförster,
- 2007 - 2009 Hans Hermann Bay.
Hans Ludwig Rohn has carried out this office since 2009 .
Activities and goals
The association pursues exclusively and directly non-profit purposes.
The purpose of the association is to promote public health, research and science .
The association has the following tasks in particular:
- Protects the interests of those suffering from myasthenia gravis and other myasthenic syndromes in Germany.
- Informing the public, patients, their relatives and friends about myasthenia gravis and other myasthenic syndromes.
- Creation of contact and communication opportunities between patients, their families and friends.
- Attempt to coordinate and intensify research projects on this disease with the aim of improving the therapeutic possibilities. Support of the social, psychological and physiotherapeutic care of the sick. Suitable institutions are supported by the association.
- Registration of sick people living in Germany, provided that they agree.
- Advising the members and all those interested in information and advice and supporting those affected by this disease in their efforts to achieve an appropriate position in family, school, work and society.
Awards
The Eberhard Pfleiderer Prize was awarded for the first time on September 10, 2009. The research award was donated by a self-affected member and published by the German Myasthenia Society.
The prize is awarded every 2 years.
