Hypermill is a modular CAM software solution that is being developed by Open Mind Technologies AG, based in Weßling near Munich. Hypermill enables CAM programmers to create NC programs.

Function and areas of application

Hypermill combines 2.5D, 3D and 5-axis milling as well as milling turning and machining such as high-speed cutting (HSC) and high-performance cutting (HPC) under one user interface. The software also includes special applications for milling impellers , blisks , turbine blades , mold channels and tire molds as well as numerous automation options.

With hyperCAD-S, Open Mind is developing its own CAD system that is tailored to the requirements of CAM programmers. Hypermill is available as a direct integration for Solidworks and Autodesk Inventor . The integrated versions are certified by Dassault Systems and Autodesk .

The software offers numerous standard and direct interfaces ( IGES , STEP , STL , DXF / DWG , Parasolid , Point Cloud , hyperCAD, Catia V4 / V5, Autodesk Inventor , Solidworks , NX , JT , PTC Creo Parametric ).

Hypermill is used worldwide in various industries, including tool, mold and mechanical engineering as well as in the automotive, medical technology, energy supply, and aerospace and aerospace sectors .

  • 2.5D milling: pocket milling, contour milling, residual material processing, plunge milling
  • 3D milling: roughing on any blank, profile finishing, Z-plane shape finishing, ISO machining, 3D-optimized roughing, Z-plane finishing, curve milling, equidistant finishing
  • 5-axis milling: Several positioning strategies are available: 3 + 2, automatic indexing and 5-axis simultaneous machining
  • High-performance cutting: for roughing, finishing and drilling. The roughing solution is available for 2D, 3D and 5-axis operations
  • Drilling: Strategies for 2D to 5-axis drilling. Centering, drilling with chip breaking, tapping, thread milling, reaming and boring, deep drilling, deep hole drilling, all 2.5D cycles can also be used for 3 + 2 multi-axis machining, 5-axis milling
  • Mill turning: Roughing, contour-parallel roughing, finishing, plunge turning, retraction and extension, plunge finishing, face plunge turning, plunge cut and finishing, thread turning, 3-axis milling
  • Wire EDM: Programming and simulation of wire EDM machines
  • Electrode production: the Hypercad-S Electrode module automates the collision-free production of electrodes
  • Simulation: NC code based simulation
  • Post processors: Open Mind creates user-specific post processors
  • Measurement of rectangular and circular elements, axis-dependent probing, 3D point probing. Probing can be used to measure, adjust an offset and set the machine origin
  • Automated programming: feature technology, macro technology, tool information are stored in the tool database
