from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Deutsche Rhododendron-Gesellschaft eV is a non-profit association for evergreen deciduous and coniferous trees .

history

The company was founded on October 18, 1935 at a ceremony in Bremen's town hall . The initiative for this came from rhododendron lovers and tree nursery owners. In May 1937 the first official general meeting was held in Bremen's Rhododendron Park . An agreement was made with the nurseries that the Bremen Park should be developed as a show and viewing garden with the greatest possible variety of rhododendron wild species and varieties.

Society

Members of the society are gardening enthusiasts and plant lovers of rhododendrons, azaleas and evergreen deciduous trees as well as horticultural experts from science and practice. The members come from all over Germany and also from other European and non-European countries. Their number is currently around 1200. The association endeavors to provide its members with professional advice, imparting experience, and informing them about new findings and research results on rhododendrons and evergreen trees. According to the current statutes, the following areas belong to the narrower tasks under the topic of research into rhododendrons and evergreen deciduous and coniferous trees :

  • The systematic processing of the corresponding genres
  • Investigations of wild species and varieties for winter hardiness , flower color , willingness to flower , growth, foliage and other properties
  • Breeding studies
  • Exchange of scientific research results at home and abroad
  • Publication of work results

The annual meetings with lectures and tours give the members the opportunity to exchange practical experiences, to see and experience the rhododendrons and evergreen trees. Special study trips at home and abroad lead to the most beautiful (often generally inaccessible) parks and gardens. The association endeavors to promote the spread of rhododendrons and evergreen trees in gardens and parks and to work together with all bodies concerned with the care and development of these plants . Expansion, development and prosperity of the Rhododendron Park in Bremen with its extensive collections of species and varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas and other evergreen trees is a special concern of society.
