German School Santiago ( DS ; Spanish: Colegio Alemán de Santiago ) is a private German school abroad in the Chilean capital Santiago de Chile with around 2000 students. Years 7–12 and the administration are located in the Las Condes district , years 1–6 in Vitacura . The associated kindergarten is located next to the Las Condes department in Cerro Colorado . There is a pre-kindergarten and a normal kindergarten, which children attend until they reach the first grade.
history
On October 18, 1890, the foundation took place at a meeting of the members of the German colony in Santiago. The aim was a non-denominational school that would preserve the German language . School operations began on March 3, 1891 with 89 students. There were several relocations, the current buildings have been used by DS since 1988 and 1990, and the preschool has existed since 2012.
particularities
After the 4th grade, the students have to decide whether they want to take the Chilean or the German course . The German course entitles you to take the German International Abitur examination after the 12th grade. It is mandatory to wear the school uniform . Above all, children from German and German-speaking families as well as students with German language skills are accepted. The school charges school fees : the one-time admission fee is around € 2,800, the fees for one school year are € 5,800 to € 6,100 depending on the grade. If there are more than one child, there is a sibling discount (all data stated as of August 2017, exchange rate may vary). The school also offers study groups , but these are chargeable.
