history

Exterior view

The DSTY was founded in Yokohama in 1904. After the Great Kanto earthquake in 1923 , the school remained largely undestroyed, but many families moved from Yokohama to Tokyo , which led to the temporary end of school operations in Yokohama. In 1934, the DSTY in Ōmori (now part of Tokyo Ōta district ) was reopened. The school building was hardly damaged during the Second World War , but was closed by the American military administration in 1946. On December 1, 1953, the school was able to resume school operations. At that time there were a total of 17 students. In 1960 the first post-war matriculation examination was carried out. From 1970, the number of students increased significantly, so that due to the lack of space, it was decided to build a new, larger school building in Yokohama in the Tsuzuki district . This was obtained in 1991. Classes started in September 1991 with 450 students. A fourth floor was also built in 2010.

The current school building is about a ten-minute walk from the Nakamachidai subway station. Around 600 students are currently attending the school.
