The Japanese School in Hamburg ( Japanese ハ ン ブ ル グ 日本人 学校 , Hanburugu Nihonjin Gakkō ) is a school for Japanese students who live in the Hamburg metropolitan area. The school has been located in Halstenbek ( Schleswig-Holstein ) since 1994 , about three kilometers from the state border with Hamburg .
history
In 1963 the Japanese Association, which was founded shortly before, organized the first Japanese lessons for children in Hamburg. At that time around 800 Japanese lived in Hamburg, including 50 children. The first teacher was the wife of a Japanese pastor. The Japanese Association was later renamed the Japanese Institute.
The school was transferred in 1981 as Nihonjin Gakkō (日本人 学校, school for Japanese) in the sponsorship of the Japanese state. The registered association Japanese School in Hamburg only supports the supplementary school , which can be attended on Saturdays. From 1981 to 1994 the school was located in an old building on Osdorfer Landstrasse in the Hamburg district of Osdorf .
In 1994 the school moved to a new building in Halstenbek. The property for this was made available by the married couple Jürgen and Christa Heidorn. The new building was designed by the architectural firm Architects R + K .
The Japanese Institute in Hamburg eV ( ハ ン ブ ル グ 補習 授業 校 , Hanburugu Hoshū Jugyōkō , German “Supplementary School Hamburg”) is also housed in the school building.
