The German Seniorenliga eV (DSL) has existed since 1993 as a registered, non-profit association. It represents the interests and pursues the goals of the fastest growing population group in Germany, the older generations and their families. The German Seniors League does not use any public funds to finance its ongoing business operations. It finances its work through donations and membership fees from 1,800 natural persons.

The German Senior League is a member of the NGO Committee on Aging.

Goals and Activities

Currently, almost 29 million people over 50 live in Germany. In 2050 they will make up more than half of the population of the Federal Republic of Germany. Against this background, the German Seniors League advocates partnership between the generations and opposes any form of age discrimination. In Germany and at the European level, the association is committed to the opportunities and conditions to grow old healthy and at the same time fights for the rights of those who are dependent on help and care. The German Senior League works centrally in Bonn. It supports established contacts such as senior citizens' offices, doctors, pharmacists and members of the nursing professions as well as representatives from the health and nursing care insurance sector. The association regularly carries out studies and surveys on relevant topics in an aging society. The implementation of these goals takes place through

  • Extensive information material on senior-specific topics
  • Representation of interests in many senior policy, health policy and medical areas at federal and state level
  • Current information on the latest scientific and research findings
  • Funding of research projects in the medical, social science and political fields
  • Personal advice and help for self-help in questions relevant to seniors from the member support department
  • Regular and detailed information from the magazine "aktiv"
  • the direct distribution of information media to pharmacists and doctors for distribution to patients and display in the waiting room
  • Publication of information through press and public relations work
  • Internet presence

In 2018, the German Seniors League, together with the SIGNAL-IDUNA GROUP, initiated the first Demography Founder Award, the SENovation Award.

Publications

aktiv is the magazine for members, friends and sponsors of the German Senior League. It appears quarterly and provides detailed information on current senior-specific topics.

The German Seniors League publishes information brochures on senior-specific topics from the fields of medicine, health and society.

Scientific Board of Trustees

The scientific board of trustees of the German Senior League ensures the quality of the association's work. The members of the board of trustees provide advice and support to the board. The experts from various disciplines give suggestions and recommendations on initiatives and projects that the German Senior Citizens' League carries out in the interests of older people in Germany.

Cooperations

AARP (American Association of Retired Persons). Since 2007 there has been a regular exchange of experiences with the US non-profit and independent member organization AARP, the largest senior citizens' association in the world with 37 million individual members. The AARP supports people from the age of 50 in their independence as well as in their freedom of choice and decision-making.

OpenISA In cooperation with the OpenISA project, the German Seniors League has so far implemented a total of four ideas competitions. OpenISA is an open innovation platform for health-related services (DL) in old age. It forms the space for the creation of new, high-quality DL and accompanying services for products with the participation of senior citizens as the primary customer group. The wealth of experience and expertise of this population group expand the space of need and solution for the needs-based and successful provision of services.
