German Lusitanist Association

The German Lusitanist Association e. V. (DLV) ( Portuguese Associação Alemã de Lusitanistas ) is a scientific association based in Frankfurt am Main . Since it was founded in 1993, the DLV has seen itself as a forum for all those who research and teach in German-speaking countries in the field of Lusitan studies or who publish on Lusitan studies abroad. The official languages ​​of the association are German and Portuguese , and Galician is also represented as a co-official language .

Goals of the German Lusitanist Association

The German Lusitanist Association pursues the following goals:

  • Promotion and dissemination of Portuguese lessons as well as knowledge of the history, culture, literature and language (s) of all Portuguese-speaking countries and Galicia at schools, adult education centers and universities in the entire German-speaking area.
  • Promotion of scientific cooperation, research and specialist didactics in the field of Lusitanistics within the entire German-speaking area as well as between the German-speaking area and the rest of the specialist world.
  • Organization and conducting of scientific conferences and colloquiums in the field of lusitanism. This includes in particular the implementation of a "German Lusitanist Day" every two years.
  • Cooperation with other national and international school, adult education centers and university associations, which represent the interests of Lusitan studies , general Hispanic studies or Romance studies in general.

Lusitanist days

The German Lusitanist Association has organized the German Lusitanist Day every two years since 1995. This is primarily a conference of German-speaking linguists and literary scholars who teach and research in the field of Lusitan studies (Brazilian, Portuguese, African, Creole, Galician). Only German, Portuguese and Galician are permitted as lecture and discussion languages. The 11th German Lusitanist Day was held from September 16 to 19, 2015 at RWTH Aachen University under the heading "Upheavals and new beginnings - the Portuguese-speaking world in motion" "/" O mundo lusófono em movimento - (r) evoluções e transformações " . Every two years, the German Lusitanist Association awards prizes for outstanding qualification theses in the subject Lusitanistics.
