history

The German Scherenschnittverein was founded in 1995. The founding assembly elected Jürgen Willersinn (chairman), Christa Weber (second chairwoman) and Ursula Kirchner (treasurer) to the board, which initially devoted itself to the publication of a newsletter. It appeared under the title Schwarz Auf Weiß in December 1995 and went to 250 interested parties.

In September 1996 the 1st general meeting took place in Calw-Holzbronn; the association now had 140 members. Claus Weber and Karin Dütz took over the chairmanship. Christa Weber was entrusted with setting up a comprehensive archive. Helmuth Bögel won the competition for a club logo with the scissors witch , which was created on April 11, 1997. Claus Weber formulated the association's tasks as follows: “There has always been kitsch, but who would dare to deny painting the status of 'art' because there are truly kitschy paintings [...]? [...] Artistic freedom must be the top priority in the work and reporting of the German Scherenschnittverein! All experiments with technology and form of expression between traditional and futuristic must find a place, every experiment must be allowed. "

Claus Weber died in February 1998 and Berta von Böventer was elected as his successor by a large majority. In 1999 an information sheet was created for the presentation of the association, which was designed by Hans Ramsteiner, an expert in signatures and silhouette postcards. In 2002 the general assembly in Sebnitz elected Matthias Seeliger as the first chairman. Hartmut Klug , who has set himself the goal of artistic work with children and young people, became his deputy . In 2007 Erich Kaiß was elected chairman, who resigned from office in 2008. After that, the association was initially led provisionally by Hartmut Klug, whom the 2010 general meeting elected as acting chairman.

Today the association has around 300 members all over the world, including in the EU, Australia, China, CIS successor states, Japan, Canada, Switzerland and the USA. Important artists such as the Austrian Gerhard Rühm and the Dutch Gerlof Smit have joined the German Paper Cutting Association. Friendly contacts exist with the Guild of American Papercutters (GAP).

A second exhibition took place in Holzminden, the third in Weilburg an der Lahn. The exhibition, in which 40 silhouette artists took part, was also on view in Berlin and in 2006 in Karin Dütz's silhouette studio in Nuremberg.
