The German Ski Instructors Association e. V. (DSLV) is a professional association in which over 14,000 snow sports instructors and 270 professional ski / snowboard and cross-country skiing schools are organized in Germany . The DSLV represents the professional interests of its members at home and abroad. Members are ski , snowboard , cross-country skiing , telemark instructors and ski schools from the disciplines of alpine skiing , snowboarding, telemark and cross-country skiing.

The current president is Wolfgang Pohl, the seat and the office are in Grainau, right next to the valley station of the Alpspitzbahn (Bavaria). The DSLV is a member of the International Ski Instructor Association .

The association trains ski instructors, snowboard instructors, cross-country skiing instructors and telemark instructors. Together with the Technical University of Munich , the DSLV conducts the training and examination to become a state-certified ski instructor. Snow sports instructors with level 3 and state-approved qualifications receive the ISIA mark. In order to receive the association's internal training mark or the ISIA mark, the snow sports instructors of the DSLV must take part in at least two-day training every two years . There is also a 2-year compulsory training course for professional skis / snowboards / cross-country skiing schools.

education

The DSLV trains snow sports instructors in the disciplines of alpine skiing, telemark skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. Degrees are currently offered in the following disciplines:

  • Level 1 (formerly basic level);

  • Level 2 (formerly aptitude test; regional ski instructor);

The training is carried out by the association's team of instructors.

Theoretical fundamentals of the training are, among other things, the ski curriculum "Skiing easy", "Snowboarding easy", "Cross-country skiing easy", published by the German Ski Instructors Association. The comprehensive reform of the training structure, which came into force on September 1, 2013, is intended to contribute to the holistic, multi-sport training of snow sports instructors. The following regulations currently apply:

Ski instructor / snowboard instructor / Nordic ski instructor / Telemark ski instructor Level 1

The Level 1 training is primarily geared towards teaching beginners and children. Examination requirements are a minimum age of 16 years, confirmation of a 50-hour internship from a professional ski school in the DSLV and a current first aid certificate. The internship can be replaced by a two-day training course. The training and examination comprises two days of training on technology, methodology and theory. In addition, two 45-minute theoretical lessons on children's ski lessons are held. The exam itself consists of a practical part about your own driving skills (test drives) and teaching aptitude and a theoretical part (multiple choice). The exam is passed if at least a grade of 4.5 (on a scale from 1 to 6) has been achieved in all parts. There are currently 7,765 Level 1 ski instructors, 32 Telemark Level 1 ski instructors, 2,570 Level 1 snowboard instructors and 184 Nordic Level 1 ski instructors.

Building on level 1, the training step to level 2 follows. As with level 1, the exam is taken in a combined training and examination course (5 + 1 days). Examination parts are 2 driving techniques, free descent and prepared teaching sample. The exam is considered passed if at least a grade of 4.5 (on a scale from 1 to 6) has been achieved in all parts.

Ski instructor / snowboard instructor / Nordic ski instructor / Telemark ski instructor Level 3

The level 3 training can take place after passing the level 2 exam. The following admission requirements are required: The minimum age is 18 years, 150 hours of internship in a professional ski / snowboard / cross-country skiing school, medical certificate, official certificate of good conduct (not older than 3 months), first aid (not older than 2 years). The training and exam for level 3 includes 3 days of training in risk management 1, 5 days of training in motor skills, methodology and theory, 2 days of testing in the areas of driving technique, free descent, driving according to specified lines, unprepared teaching sample and written exam. There are currently 1,450 level 3 ski instructors and 304 level 3 snowboard instructors.

State-certified ski / snowboard instructor

The training to become a state-certified ski or snowboard instructor in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich is regulated by the training and examination regulations for professional sports instructors in Bavaria . The admission requirements for entry into state training are level 3 evidence, additional level 1 evidence in two further training areas, a further 100 hours of internship (an apprenticeship with a state-certified ski / snowboard instructor at the Technical University of Munich is to be applied for). After passing the level 3 exam, the following courses must be attended:

  • Theory module (2 days)
  • Risk management module 2 (6 days) including the Euro security test
  • Motor skills module (5 days)
  • Methodology module (4 days)

The subsequent five-day exam covers the areas of driving technique, free descent, driving according to specified lines, freestyle, unprepared and prepared teaching sample and 4 exams. There are currently 1,883 state-certified ski instructors and 95 state-certified snowboard instructors and 110 state-certified cross-country skiing instructors.
