The Alpspitzbahn is a cable car belonging to the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG in Grainau near Garmisch-Partenkirchen . Contrary to what its name might suggest, it does not lead to the Alpspitze , but to a small plateau on its northern flank and thus to the Garmisch Classic ski area .

location

The valley station of the Alpspitzbahn is 748  m between Garmisch and Hammersbach in the Grainau district, 200 meters west-southwest of the valley station of the Kreuzeckbahn , and near the Kreuzeck- / Alpspitzbahn stop of the Zugspitzbahn .

The mountain station is at 2033  m , just below the Osterfelderkopf ( 2057  m ).

The AlpspiX viewing platform is in the immediate vicinity of the mountain station .

The mountain station is the starting point for various hiking trails and via ferratas. A direct iron path ( ferrata ) leads to the Alpspitze ( 2620  m ) as well as the normal path, which also has via ferrata passages , in a large curve. On the descent, hiking trails lead to the Hochalm inn, to the Kreuzeck , into the Höllental , as well as below the Bernadeinwand and the Stuibenhütte into the Partnachtal .

technology

The aerial tramway built by Habegger with two cabins on separate lanes was completed in 1973. It has a length of 3810 meters, in the course of which it overcomes a height difference of 1287 meters.

The two carrying ropes of the Alpspitzbahn have a diameter of 46 mm, the pulling rope one of 31 mm. The drive took place until May 2009 with a 440 kW DC motor (short-term peak power 880 kW) in the valley station. In the spring revision of 2009, the drive was rebuilt. The heart of the system is now a 560 kW AC motor that is controlled by a frequency converter. During this work, a new control from Doppelmayr was installed. The cabins of the Alpspitzbahn hold 80 people and the cabin attendant. The travel time is 9 minutes, the maximum speed 10 m / s (36 km / h). The transport capacity is 500 people per hour. The Alpspitzbahn has 3 pillars. Their heights are 54 m, 16.5 m and 67 m.
