The AlpspiX is a viewing platform made of steel , which is attached to the Osterfelderkopf , a 2057  m high side summit of the Alpspitze , at a height of around 2050  m . The walk-in, free-floating arms of the AlpspiX are covered with gratings and provide a view of the approximately 1000 meter depth of the Hell Valley . The construction is about 20 meters above the mountain station of the Alpspitzbahn and has been open to the public and free of charge since the inauguration on July 4th, 2010.

construction

The AlpspiX consists of two 24-meter-long steel arms that swing freely about 13 meters above the rock into the Höllental, whereby the floor is transparent through the grating ; At the end there is a sloping glass pane to close the path, so that, if it is not dirty, a panoramic view is possible. The name is a word created from the components “Alpspitze” and “X”, as the crossed but superimposed arms create an X-like construction.

criticism

While the Zugspitzbahn describes the construction as enhancing its attractiveness, the Bund Naturschutz is against the AlpspiX, as it spoils the beauty of the mountain world. The German Alpine Association points out that the experience of the mountains and not the tourist attraction alone should be in the foreground. In the opinion of the German Alpine Association, municipalities and those responsible in tourism should develop more contemporary offers for those seeking relaxation, families, hikers and mountaineers that meet the growing needs for originality, authenticity and closeness to nature. The association cites the creation of themed trails as an example of such contemporary offers .
