The Surmelin is a river in France that runs in the Grand Est and Hauts-de-France regions. It rises under the name Ru Moret in the Forêt de Vertus , in the municipality of Loisy-en-Brie . In its upper reaches, the river disappears into the calcareous subsoil for about 300 meters and then reappears on the surface as a karst spring .
