Montmort-Lucy is a French commune with 608 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épernay and the Canton Dormans-Paysages de Champagne (until 2015: Canton Montmort-Lucy ) and lies on the Surmelin River .

history

Montmort had a fortress since the 12th century. A Renaissance castle was built on its foundation walls , which belonged to the Béthune (Sully) house and then to the Hangest house .

Victor Hugo described the Montmort Castle as a "ravissant tohu-bohu de tourelles de girouettes, de pignons, de lucarnes et de cheminées", as a "gorgeous hubbub of turrets, weather vanes, gables, hatchings and chimneys".
