Rieux is a French commune with 198 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement Épernay and the municipality association La Brie Champenoise founded in 1996 . The inhabitants are called Rieuxois .

The municipality of Rieux is located in the east of the Brie landscape at the transition to the western part of the Champagne sèche , the "dry Champagne", about 80 kilometers east of Paris . It borders on the Aisne and Seine-et-Marne departments . The 11.56 km² area of ​​the municipality is characterized by large fields on mostly flat ground relief; Except for the Bois Rabot and Bois Fort Pigeon forests in the south, there are only small remains of the forest. The small river Ruisseau de Vinet rises in the municipality of Rieux and flows into the Petit Morin a few kilometers further north . The community is a collection of several hamlets and individual farms, the relatively central hamlet of Rieux includes only about a dozen houses in addition to Mairie , church and cemetery. Other hamlets are called Montrobert, Le Puits, Les Chanots, Le Monzet, Molincourt, Chénézard, Fontaine Armée, Villeperdue (partially) and Beigneaux . Economy and Infrastructure

Three oil wells are exploited in the south of the municipality. They are part of the 90-well Morsains oil field with a daily yield of 725 barrels (as of 2017).

Nine farms are located in Rieux, seven of which are arable farms (cultivation of grain and pulses), a cattle breeder and a winemaker who, however, is not allowed to use grapes to produce champagne outside of the locations defined in the Champagne wine-growing region .

The D 41 trunk road runs through Rieux from Montmirail to La Ferté-Gaucher . In the town of Château-Thierry , 30 kilometers away, there is a connection to the A4 Autoroute from Paris to Nancy .
