geography

Entrance to Queudes

Queudes is located about 55 kilometers northwest of Troyes on the Ruisseau de Choisel , a small tributary of the Aube in the western part of the Champagne sèche , the "dry Champagne", also called "lousy Champagne" ( Champagne pouilleuse ) or "chalky Champagne" ( Champagne crayeuse ) . The area is characterized by rolling hills covered by large fields. The area is unsuitable for viticulture and so you can only find vines of the Côte de Sézanne wine-growing region within the Champagne wine-growing region around six kilometers to the west near Barbonne-Fayel . In the municipality of Queudes, the irrigation and drainage canal Canal de Choisel runs parallel to the Ruisseau de Choisel . Queudes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chichey in the north, Gaye in the east, La Chapelle-Lasson in the southeast (point of contact), Villeneuve-Saint-Vistre-et-Villevotte in the south, Barbonne-Fayel in the west and Saudoy in the northwest.

Place name

When the church was founded in 1793, the place was called Quendes ; the spelling changed from Quindes to Queudes, which is still in use today (from 1801).
