Thaas (1793 in the spelling Thâas ) is a French commune with 99 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement Épernay and the municipality association Sud Marnais founded in 1998 . The inhabitants are called Tayons .
geography
Thaas is located 15 kilometers southeast of Sézanne and about 50 kilometers northwest of Troyes on the Superbe , a tributary of the Aube in the western part of the Champagne sèche , the "dry Champagne", also known as "lousy Champagne" ( Champagne pouilleuse ). The Canal de la Noue de Barbara , which partially forms the eastern municipal boundary of Thaas, runs parallel to the Superbe . The area is characterized by the lack of forests, apart from small remains of alluvial forest, and by rolling hills covered by large fields. Thaas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chichey in the north, Gaye in the east, La Chapelle-Lasson in the southeast (point of contact), Villeneuve-Saint-Vistre-et-Villevotte in the south, Barbonne-Fayel in the west and Saudoy in the northwest.
history
From 1645 it is said that Thaas belonged to a Jacques du Val Ognes , descendant of the lords of Désiré. Claude du Val Ognes was buried in the local church in 1726. His descendants left Thaas in 1878.
