German publisher for basic industry

VEB Deutscher Verlag für Grundstoffindindustrie (DVG) was a specialist book publisher in the GDR based in Leipzig. Mostly books and magazines for the fields of mining, metallurgy, energy and chemical industry were published.

history

The publishing house was founded on January 1, 1960 in the course of the creation of new specialist book publishers in the GDR. Heinz Schöbel became the first director of the publishing house . At peak times, the publisher published 150 titles a year. The average circulation was 3000 copies, which could increase to 60,000 copies in the education and training sector. In total, textbooks for 35 subject areas were published. Popular scientific non-fiction books and 10 magazines were also published. About 30% of the production was exported. At the end of the 1980s the publishing house had around 115 employees.

In 1990 the DVG is converted into a GmbH. In September 1990, Ferdinand Enke Verlag from Stuttgart took over all shares in the publisher from the Treuhandanstalt . At the end of 1994 the publishing house in Leipzig was given up and the whole publishing house relocated to Stuttgart. At the beginning of 1999 Ferdinand Enke Verlag went to Georg Thieme Verlag , which initially continued to run DVG as an independent GmbH. On September 1st, the entire DVG program is sold to Wiley-VCH in Weinheim. The publisher ceases business activities of the DVG. At the end of 2001, the publishing house for basic industry was deleted as a member of the Börsenverein .
