The German Air Force Command USA / Canada ( DtLwKdo USA / CAN ) performed all air force-specific tasks in the USA and Canada on behalf of and following instructions from the Federal Ministry of Defense.

history

In August 1966, the German Air Force Training Command USA was set up in Fort Bliss , Texas. The tasks were to carry out basic aeronautical training and training on the missile systems.

As part of the realignment of the Bundeswehr , the German Air Force Command USA and Canada was decommissioned on September 30, 2013. The remaining tasks and subordinate associations were subordinated to the Aviation Training Center of the Air Force (FlgAusbZLw) on October 1, 2013 .

It led the subordinate units, departments, units and sub-units as well as the Air Force liaison and exchange officers / NCOs. The main task consisted essentially of ensuring the training and further education of aircraft crews and ground-based air defense personnel as well as the support of air force exercises on the North American continent.

The following essential tasks resulted from this order:

  • Representation of German interests in the US Air Force , US Army and US Navy
  • Coordination of responsibilities between German and US agencies
  • Evaluation of experiences and findings
  • Elaboration of proposals and recommendations for the further development and adaptation of the training to the needs of the associations
  • Support for the training of air force units
  • Monitoring:
    • the personnel and material readiness of the training institutions
    • the logistical supply of the training facilities, insofar as it is German responsibility
  • Press and public relations
