The Devils Glacier (English for Teufelsgletscher ) is a very rugged, 30 km long and 13 km wide glacier in the Antarctic Ross Dependency near the polar plateau . It drains the southern part of the Mohn Basin and flows in a north-easterly direction to the upper section of the Amundsen Glacier . It reaches this north of a mountain group consisting of Mount Wisting , Mount Hassel , Mount Bjaaland and Mount Prestrud .
In 1911, the glacier was part of the route taken by the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen and his four companions on the way to the geographic South Pole. Amundsen named it The Devil's Glacier (English for glacier of the devil ), to emphasize the efforts that they had to endure when maneuvering the transport carriage about this glacier. The apostrophized spelling later changed to the form established today.
