Devils Hole

As Devils Hole ( dt. Devil's Hole ) is an underground water reservoir called that in the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge 30 km northwest of around Pahrump , Nevada ( USA ), is located. The roughly two by seven meter column is the only known opening in a cave system that is around 500,000 years old. The crevice itself is only ten meters deep and forms a protrusion on the edge of the caves that continue from there. The caves are filled with water, the salinity of which varies with the seasons.

Only in this body of water has the tiny devil fish ( Cyprinodon diabolis ) been found. To protect this endemic species, the crevice is fenced and monitored with cameras. Access to the water is not possible. Devils Hole is looked after by the National Park Service as the exclave of Death Valley National Park .
