history
The first settlers in this area were the Shoshone . The city's name is probably derived from the name Pah-Rimpi-Rimpi, which means something like "water rocks". In the 19th century the first Americans came to Pahrump and built some ranches. On the 4 km² ranches, alfalfa and cotton were grown and cattle were kept. Until the 1960s the city had no telephone connection and the only access to the city was a gravel road. In 1972 a high school was built in Pahrump .
Pahrump is currently best known for its (legal) prostitution and brothels , including the “Chicken Ranch Brothel”.
