Coordinates: 41 ° 11 ′ S , 146 ° 21 ′ E The City of Devonport is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 116 km² and has about 25,000 inhabitants (2016).
Devonport is in the middle of the island's north coast and is approximately 210 kilometers northwest of the capital Hobart . The area includes 15 hamlets and towns: Aberdeen, Ambleside, Devonport , East Devonport, Don Eugenana, Forthside, Lillico, Melrose, Paloona, Quoiba, Spreyton, South Spreyton, Stony Rise and Tugrah. The seat of the City Council is in the district of Devonport in the northeast of the LGA on the coast, where about 23,000 inhabitants live (2016).

The Devonport City Council has twelve members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and ten Aldermen are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Devonport is not divided into districts.
