Devota or Deivota (* around 283, † 304 in Mariana , Corsica ) is a legendary Christian martyr and saint .

There are no reliable sources of her life, the first written record comes from the year 1070. According to a legend, she was tortured to death under the Roman emperor Diocletian . Her body was to be brought to Africa by ship from Corsica . Legend has it that a storm hit a few hours after the departure, and a white dove rose from the saint's mouth and led the boat to the coast of what is now Monaco . The landing is said to have taken place there on January 27, 304 near today's Devota Church.

The Sainte-Dévote church was built in her memory.

She is the patron saint of Monaco and Corsica. Every year on the evening of January 26th, a boat is burned in front of the church in memory of the saint.
