Devoxx
The Devoxx (previously called JavaPolis ) is an annual European conference on Java , Android and HTML5 , which was initiated in 2001 by Stephan Janssen . It is organized by the Belgian Java User Group . The conference takes place around November each year. With over 2800 participants in 2006, JavaPolis became the largest manufacturer-independent Java conference in the world. In 2008 the conference was renamed Devoxx.
With more than 3300 participants, Devoxx 2011 was sold out six weeks in advance. In 2012, the conference was sold out on October 4th, again six weeks in advance. It had 3400 participants from 40 different countries.
In 2012 the first Devoxx France took place, organized by the Paris Java User Group and held from April 18, 2012 - April 20, 2012 in Paris. With more than 1200 participants and 149 speakers, Devoxx France was sold out a week beforehand.
The first edition of Devoxx 4 Kids took place in 2012 and was organized on October 13, 2012 in Ghent and on October 20, 2012 in Brussels . It attracted 65 participants, ages 10-14. The participants played with scratch and programmed Lego Mindstorms .
The Devoxx UK for 2013 was announced during the opening keynote of Devoxx 2012 on November 14, 2012 in Antwerp. The first edition of Devoxx UK is a two day conference which will take place in the Business Design Center in London from March 26, 2013–27. March 2013 right in front of Devoxx France . Devoxx UK is to be organized by Ben Evans, Martijn Verburg, Dan Hardiker and Stephan Janssen in close cooperation with the London Java Community.
The Devoxx PL for 2015 was announced during the opening keynote of Devoxx 2014 in Antwerp.
The Devoxx UA will take place under this name for the first time in Kiev in 2018.
There is also a Devoxx MA in Morocco.
Location
The Devoxx takes place in the second largest cinema complex in Europe, the MetroPolis in Antwerp . Therefore, the speakers can project video and slides of the presentations onto the huge cinema screens and use the existing THX audio infrastructure.
