Dhulian is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal .
The city belongs to the Murshidabad district . Dhulian has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 19 wards (constituencies).
Demographics
According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 95,706 and that of the agglomeration is 239,019. Dhulian has a gender ratio of 1009 women per 1000 men and thus a rare surplus of women for India. The literacy rate was 63.0% in 2011. Almost 78% of the population are Muslim , approx. 21% are Hindus and approx. 1% belong to another or no religion. 18.5% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
Infrastructure
The city is connected to the rest of the country by a train station. Dhulian is considered to be a possible hub for inland water transport between Murshidabad and the city of Rajshahi in Bangladesh.
