Diébougou is a city ( commune urbaine ) and a department in the Sud-Ouest region of the West African state of Burkina Faso . It is the capital of the Bougouriba Province and has 41,348 inhabitants.
Diébougou was founded around 1840 and signed a protectorate treaty with the French in 1897. Bobo-Dioulasso, among others, was occupied by the newly established military post. In 1903 the place had about 900 inhabitants.
Diébougou is the seat of the Diébougou diocese .
