Diakonie Pfingstweid

The Diakonie Pfingstweid is a social enterprise based in Pfingstweid , a living space of about Tettnang in Baden-Wuerttemberg belonging village of Kau .

history

The Basel Mission acquired a piece of land in 1849 in order to start work in 1850 with three missionary brothers from St. Chrischona from Basel. A child rescue center was established in 1855. This was followed by a mission school in 1857, a home for traveling companions in 1860 and a sanatorium for epileptics from 1862–1867. In 1900 there were 52 foster children who were looked after by 17 people. In 1909 there was a fire disaster; it was rebuilt.

In the 1920s, up to 47 residents were given care, housing and occupational therapy.

In 1940/41, 29 residents were murdered by the National Socialists, including 24 people who were taken to the Grafeneck killing center on February 1, 1940 and murdered with gas. 5 were initially taken to the Weinsberg intermediate facility.

New construction work was carried out in 1950. In 1966 there were 105 nurses and 12 employees.

In 2013 the name was changed from “Heim Pfingstweid” to “Diakonie Pfingsweid” because the term “Heim” was out of date. A memorial plaque for the murdered residents was inaugurated on March 14, 2014.

The Diakonie Pfingstweid now looks after more than 300 people with various disabilities. It offers 158 places to live in the apartments on the spacious and places for 30 people in living groups outside. It offers living and working opportunities at various locations in the Lake Constance district , in Tettnang , Friedrichshafen and Langenargen, as well as a range of advisory services and outpatient services.

It employs around 300 people, including curative educators, social pedagogues, work educators, interns and volunteers. It generates total sales of around 17 million euros.
