The diamond barbel ( Hypsibarbus pierrei ) is a Southeast Asian carp fish and spread from Thailand to Malaysia and via Cambodia to Vietnam . In Malay it is called Kerai kunyit . It lives as a potamodromer migratory fish in medium-sized to large rivers.
features
The diamond barb reaches a size of 30 cm and has a high-backed body. Diagnostic features of the species are four horizontal rows of scales between the lateral line and the row of scales on the middle back line at the beginning of the dorsal fin, a serrated last, unbranched dorsal fin ray with 15 to 19 prongs and five to eight gill rakes on the lower branch of the first gill arch.

In Germany the diamond barbel is only kept in the Leipzig zoological garden in Gondwanaland .
