The diamond knot is a knot that is used for both jewelry and ornament as well as fastening purposes.
application
The diamond knot is often used as a decorative knot on leather cords in connection with jewelry . With the boy scouts it is part of the Woodbadges , a high honor. Seafarers use it on pipe cords or as a decorated handle on pocket knives or on zippers.
When climbing , it can be used as a knot loop or " clamping wedge replacement" if the rock material does not allow the use of metal clamping wedges, e.g. B. in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains .
The rope shackle (also called Dyneema shackle) uses a diamond knot as a fastener.
Knot
The diamond knot is difficult to tie. For a better overview two different colored lines are shown here. If only one line is used, the long ends are in one piece here in the picture and form a loop.
It starts with a hawser . Then the two loose ends above the loop (i.e. the two long ends here in the picture row) are turned around the knot in the same direction of rotation (over the long ends), and pulled through the middle from back to front. Now the two ends are taken together at the top, as well as the two that form the loop at the bottom. The knot is formed by carefully pulling it up and down. Sometimes gentle shaking at the same time helps.
Alternatives
- In twisted cordage, similar thickenings are also made by splicing .
- 4 lines can also be used for knotting. ( Double diamond knot , often used when climbing)
- The monkey fist is even thicker .
