The Diamond Light Source is a synchrotron radiation source in Oxfordshire , England . The storage ring has a circumference of 560 meters and accelerates electrons to an energy of 3 G eV . Diamond is optimized for the generation of electromagnetic radiation with photon energies around 10 keV, but not only generates X-rays , but also light of longer wavelengths up to the infrared range. Operations started at the beginning of February 2007.

The construction and operating company Diamond Light Source Ltd is 86% owned by the UK government and 14% by the Wellcome Trust .
