Forestry Office Pankow
The Pankow Forestry Office is an office of the Berlin Forests . The Forestry Office is responsible for the Berlin properties in the Berlin district of Pankow and in the Brandenburg district of Barnim .
structure
The area of the forestry office lies on the Barnim , a glacial plateau in the northeast of Berlin. The forest area totals approximately 8,500 hectares . It is divided into seven district foresters, which organize the local administration:
- based in Berlin, the district foresters Blankenfelde , Buch and Gorin as well
- based in Wandlitz, Brandenburg, the district foresters Lanke , Prenden and Ützdorf as well as the district forester Albertshof in Rüdnitz .
The head of the forestry office is Romeo Kappel.
nature
Two thirds of the area is overgrown with pine trees, which dominate the overall picture. A climate zone boundary runs through the area between the dry lowland climate of the city and the humid lowland climate north of the city limits. This creates good conditions for beech trees to grow . This is where the largest stocks of old beech trees in Berlin's forests are located, which make up seven percent of the forest in the Pankow Forestry Office. In the rest of the mixed forest , only a few oak stands are economically significant. As a commercial forest, the tree population is relatively young, only a third is older than 80 years.
