The recordings were originally recorded at Kensington Palace between September 1992 and December 1993 . Diana had hired the actor Peter Settelen as a language trainer.

At the end of July 2017 it was announced that Channel 4 was planning to broadcast a documentary based on a bundle of an estimated 20 video tapes with around seven hours of footage. Diana's brother Charles Spencer wanted to prevent the broadcast of the program as it could have a disturbing effect on Diana's sons Prince William and Prince Harry .
