Peter Settelen

Peter Settelen (born September 23, 1951 in London , England ) is a British actor and language trainer .

Life

Settelen was born in London . He worked as an actor before becoming a language trainer. He gained fame through a prominent figure in his clientele, Diana, Princess of Wales .

He was hired from September 1992 to December 1993 to help Diana find her voice for public speaking. He had been introduced to Diana by her personal fitness trainer, Carolan Brown. Settelen filmed Diana when she talked about her private life, among other things. About 20 video tapes are said to have been created in this way, all of which he left Diana for her own use.

His last contact with Diana was in March 1994.

Recovery of the videotapes

After Diana's tragic accidental death, Settelen demanded the release of the video tapes. He received a letter dated October 20, 1997 from Diana's private secretary Michael Gibbins informing him that Diana's butler Paul Burrell had been unable to track her down. But in 2001, during a search of Paul Burrell's house, six video tapes were confiscated by the Metropolitan Police . On March 23, 2001, Settelen made a statement of facts to the police. They were finally returned to him after a court order in September 2004.

Publication of private recordings

Excerpts from the video tapes were shown for the first time at the end of 2004 on the American television broadcaster NBC as part of the Dateline series in the two-part program Princess Diana: Secret Video Tapes . Because Diana had expressed vague doubts on a recording that the death of her former bodyguard, Barry Mannakee, was an accident, Operation Paget found itself compelled to sift through all six videotapes and conduct another thorough investigation of the traffic accident. NBC also compiled the documentary Diana Revealed: The Princess No One Knew , which was released on DVD in February 2006. In August 2017, excerpts were shown on the British channel Channel 4 in the program Diana: In Her Own Words .
