Paul Burrell
Paul Burrell (born June 6, 1958 in Grassmoor near Chesterfield ) was between 1976 and 1997 a member of the servants of the British monarchy .
Life
First, he was a lackey (Engl. Footman ) for Queen Elizabeth II. Operates; In 1987 he was servant ( Butler ) of Princess Diana and Prince Charles in Highgrove House . After their separation he worked as Diana's butler at Kensington Palace from the end of 1992 . In recognition of his services to the royal family , the Queen presented him with the “Royal Victorian Medal” in November 1997. He later summarized his knowledge of etiquette , especially court manners , in his book Entertaining With Style .
After Princess Diana's death, he lost his post and was employed as a fundraiser for the Diana Memorial Foundation, Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund . He was later accused of theft by Diana's family and arrested by Scotland Yard in January 2001 . The criminal case against him at the Old Bailey was discontinued in 2002, probably after an intervention by the Queen.
Together with his wife, he opened a flower shop in his home town of Farndon near Chester in 2001 . About his past life he wrote (according to his own statements from April 2003) a book of memories and revelations with the title In the service of my queen (original title: A Royal Duty ), which became a bestseller . In December 2006 his second - and, according to the preface, last - memory book about Princess Diana was published, which is entitled The Time with Her (original title: The Way We Were ). In both books, Burrell portrays himself as the closest confidante of his employer; what meaning it actually had for them is controversial.
In 2004, he participated in the fourth season of the British television show I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! part and reached second place.
In January 2008 he had to appear as a witness in the course of the newly opened investigations into the circumstances of Diana's death by the British coroner in London.
After divorcing his wife Maria, with whom he has two adult sons, Burrell married long-time partner Graham Cooper in 2017.
In 2018 he participated in the fourth season of the Australian version of I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! part.
