Diane Renay's top 10 success in 1964

Diane Renay (* 13 July 1945 as Diane Renee Kushner in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) is an American pop singer . It was featured on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964 with two titles .

Musical career

Diane Renay grew up in a Jewish family and enjoyed singing as a child. As a 12-year-old she took singing lessons from the songwriter and music producer Artie Singer in Philadelphia , who attested her great musical talent. At the age of 14 she secretly recorded demo tapes in a recording studio, but these did not lead to any commercial exploitation. Instead, she graduated from Philadelphia Northeast High School.

Through her parents she met the record producer Pete De Angelis, whom she was also able to convince of her talent. He helped her in 1962 to a record deal with the New York record company Atco , which released a first single with the 16-year-old in October 1962, entitled Little White Lies and Falling Star . After the second Atco single was unsuccessful, Renay switched to 20th Century Fox . There was success with the first single, which was released in December 1963. The title Navy Blue reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed in the charts for a total of twelve weeks. Several local television stations then invited them to their music shows. Because of this success, the record company decided to produce a long-playing record with Diane Renay . It was released in February 1964 with the title Navy Blue and reached number 54 on the Billboard LP charts. Four weeks after the LP was released, the two titles Kiss Me Sailor and Soft Spoken Guy were released on a single. Kiss Me Sailor was ranked 29th on the Hot 100. At the same time, she began studying acting at the Philadelphia Theater of Acting.

After her last chart success, her record career began to draw to a close. The next two singles at 20th Century Fox were no longer successful. The same happened to the two singles produced by MGM Records in 1964 and 1965. By 1969, Diane Renay singles were released by the labels New Voice, United Artists , D-Man and Fontana, all of which remained without interest from the audience. After that, her recording career was over. Nothing is known about her success as an actress.
