Diaofang ( 碉 房 ; "Stone Chamber"; English Stone Chamber) is the Chinese name for a certain traditional building form - fortified tower houses with flat roofs - the Tibetans and Qiang in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau and part of Inner Mongolia .
According to the history of the Later Han Dynasty ( Hou Hanshu ), these stone and earth buildings existed before the year 111. Their height varies from two to three floors. You look like Diaolou . The origin of their name can be traced back to the year 1736 of the Qianlong era of the Qing dynasty .
Cattle and poultry are often kept on the ground floor, while the bedrooms, living rooms, kitchen and warehouse are on the first floor. Some have a third floor with a sutra hall and balcony.
The "Risimanba Pillbox" (日 斯 满 巴 碉 房 Risimanba diaofang) in Zamtang County (Chin. Rangtang ) in Sichuan Province has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-707) since 2006 .
