Diario Sur is a regional Spanish daily newspaper published in Málaga . It is published by Prensa Malagueña, SA, part of the media company Grupo Vocento .

history

The newspaper was first published in February 1937, then under the name Arriba , but it was soon renamed SUR . When in 1984 Medios de Comunicación Social del Estado , to which the Diario Sur belonged, was liquidated, the Sur was taken over by the employees, a group of 1500 partners. At the time, it was the only media company held by employees. In 1989 they merged with Correo (now Grupo Vocento) and founded the media group Prensa Malagueña, SA, which also includes the television program Canal Málaga and the radio program Punto Radio Málaga. The group also includes the daily free daily newspaper Qué pasa , the German and English editions of SUR and the newspaper Costa del Golf , a sports magazine about golf on the Costa del Sol .
