Didier Donfut

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Didier Donfut (born October 25, 1956 in Mons ) is a Belgian politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS). He was State Secretary and Minister in the Federal Government and Walloon Minister for Health and Social Affairs. In the spring of 2009, Donfut came under fire because, in addition to his duties as minister, he also worked as an external consultant for an intermunicipal organization and received fees from there. Shortly before the regional elections in 2009 he resigned from his ministerial office. At the local level, he was the longtime mayor of Frameries .

Life

Didier Donfut, a commercial engineer by profession, took his first steps in politics in 1982 as a member of the ÖSHZ council in Frameries . Thereupon he was first a member of the local council, a lay judge and then in 1992 mayor. At the same time was also a member of the Chamber of Deputies and later of the Walloon Parliament . In Verhofstadt II under Guy Verhofstadt , he was first appointed State Secretary for European Affairs, and later - after Rudy Demotte moved to the Walloon Region - Minister for Health and Social Affairs. He then moved to the Walloon government, where he represented Paul Magnette .

Donfut caused a scandal there in 2009 when, in addition to his ministerial work in the intermunicipal IGH, which is responsible for gas distribution in Hainaut , he received an annual fee of EUR 143,000 as an external consultant as part of his consulting company IDEE. Shortly before the regional elections in 2009 in the southern part of Belgium, there was a heated debate about ethics in politics and about so-called conflicts of interest that a minister should avoid. After all, the pressure had grown so great that Donfut resigned from his ministerial office on March 12, 2009.

However, Donfut hit the headlines again shortly after the elections when he was elected president of the same year by the PS majority in the ICJ intercommunal council, in which he had previously worked as an advisor.

In 2012, Didier Donfut announced that he would definitely retire from community politics.
