number Title description
8th "Going to Mexico" While everyone worries about the challenges Ariel's pregnancy poses for the family, Lee has finally built his perfect dream job. It goes from bad to awful when Pilar is taken away by immigration and customs, apparently by Victoria's husband, Jack. With the addition of salt to the wound, Lee's dream interview turns into a nightmare.
7th "The Truth Hurts" In an attempt to protect Ariel from her abusive mother, the Valenzuelas take in another houseguest. But that doesn't stop Ariel's mother from challenging Alma, which escalates into a physical confrontation in the face of the neighbors. Lee meets Victoria's husband, Jack, who has a problem with Lee helping his wife, the number of people living in Valenzuela, and the unrest all of these people seem to be creating in their peaceful neighborhood.
6th "Secrets" In an attempt to protect Ariel from her abusive mother, the Valenzuelas take in another houseguest.
5 "Lead Us Not Unto Temptation" (Lead Us Not Unto Temptation) When Lee helps beautiful new neighbor Victoria get her car running, a gift of chocolate chip cookies triggers a chain of guilt, deception, lies, jealousy, and hypocrisy. It all seems pretty trivial when Lee and Alma discover Paul's fifteen-year-old friend Ariel is pregnant. But none of this compares to what they feel when Paul hits them with a revelation of his own.
4th "Family Heirloom" (family heirloom) Lee, Alma, Memo, and Pilar return to find an unconscious Jennifer in the hands of the boys she invited. Lee and Alma are mad at Jennifer for inviting boys and then drinking until she passed out, but they are mad at Lucia for getting drunk, passed out, and left the kids unprotected. Hard lessons are learned about the problems alcoholism has always created for the Valenzuela family.
3 "The Legacy" Memo gets a job before Lee does and arranges a party that goes wrong. Out with parents, Lucia has too much to drink, passed out, and seventeen-year-old Jennifer invites some male friends to a party, which causes her to drink too much and also pass out, making her vulnerable ... whatever the guys want to do.
2 "Fish and House Guests" (fish and house guests) The Valenzuelas try to adjust to a house full of strange family members living in their house, Lucia's growing problem with alcohol, and Lee's struggle with the prospect of future unemployment and loss of income. Pilar, Memo's undocumented wife, surprises Lee with her generosity.
1 "Happy Birthday" (Happy Birthday) Leandro (or "Lee" as he is best known) Valenzuela's idyllic suburban world is shaken when he begins to lose his job, his mother's alcoholism, and three new houseguests - his homeboy cousin Memo, whom he has not been in thirty years has seen more. Memos undocumented wife and her overweight son. Written by Richard Cummings Jr.
