The anime television series Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight partially adapted the plot of this manga.

action

The young squire Spark wants nothing more than to become as great a knight as his role model Parn. He lives at the castle of King Cashews of Flaim, and when one day he witnesses an attack by dark elves who steal a valuable treasure, his hour seems to have come. But Spark fails and the treasure disappears. King Kashew, however, recognizes Sparks courage and skills and sends him off with a small troop to find the treasure. He is accompanied by the magician Aldo Noba, the mercenary and half-elf Leaf, the Sölner Garak and the dwarf priest Gribasu. You follow the dark elves into the desert and meet the thieves Laina and Randy, who pretend to be mercenaries, in an outpost. When the Dark Elves attack, Randy is killed and Laina joins the group.

At this time, Flaim's army goes to battle against Marmo, who has already occupied the neighboring canon and is allied with Alania. Marmos ruler Vagnard wants to awaken the Cardis and is looking for the necessary artifacts. Including the treasure from Flaim, which he had stolen. For the awakening, he also needs Neese, daughter of the powerful magician Slain. She followed the Sparks group on her own, putting herself in danger. On the way to allied Valis, the group finally discovers Neese and takes her with them on their further journey.

As soon as Spark and his comrades have arrived in Valis' capital Loido, a dark elf attacks here too to steal another artifact. After a long struggle, he finally takes Neese with him. Spark decides to follow them to Marmo Island and save Neese. With Laina's help, the friends get a ship to take up the chase. There is a fight on the high seas. When Spark reaches Neese, she says she wants to see Aldo Noba herself to convince him of the good. When Spark tries to dissuade her because it is too dangerous, she wavers in her will and Aldo Noba can bring her directly to him with her magic. The battle at sea is lost.

Spark and Leaf are washed up on the beach and found by Parn and his Free Knights. Both join their fight against Marmo.
