Disappointment
The disappointment is a Berlin jazz group that initially emerged as a quartet and has been working as a quintet since 2017 . For the American magazine Down Beat it is "the best jazz combo today".
Band history
The quartet, founded in the 1990s by Rudi Mahall , Joachim Dette , Uli Jenneßen and Axel Dörner , released a debut album in 1996 exclusively with compositions by Thelonious Monk . This was followed by a performance of the complete works of Thelonious Monk together with the pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach , which was released in 2005 as a 3-CD edition on Intakt Records ( Monk's Casino ).
The line-up with Mahall, Dörner, Jenneßen and Jan Roder (bass) produced five albums with the band members' own compositions. In 2013 the album Vier Halbe was released with the same cast .
Michael Griener replaced in 2017 Uli Jennessen on drums and by the takeover of trombonist Christof Thewes was disappointment for quintet.
