Agave titanota is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Amole Agave".

description

Agave titanota is monocarpic, grows solitary and forms short stem-forming rosettes with sparse runners. The bluish, linear to ovate, short, broad, stiff leaves, thickened to the base, are 35 to 55 cm long and 10 to 14 cm wide. The parallel prints in the leaves are white to light yellow. Nonetheless, Felipo Otero saw deviating forms (leaf structure) in exposed areas. The horny, white leaf margins are irregularly serrated. The dark brown to gray terminal mandrel is 3 to 4 cm long.

The paniculate, straight inflorescence is up to 3 m high. The yellow flowers appear on the upper part of the inflorescence and are 45 to 50 mm long. The broad, funnel-shaped flower tube is 2 to 4 mm long.

The flowering period extends from September to November.

Systematics and distribution

Agave titanota grows endemically in Mexico, widely scattered in the north of the state of Oaxaca on limestone slopes and canyons in the Rancho Tambor region and surroundings at an altitude of 1000 to 1200 m. It is associated with Mammillaria species, Tillandsia species and Sedum species.

The first description by Howard Scott Gentry was published in 1982.

Agave titanota is a member of the Marginatae group .

Agave titanota tolerates short periods of frost down to −5 ° C when it is dry.
