The inheritance , with the subtitle interlude in two sections , is one of the puppet shows by Count Franz von Pocci and appeared for the first time in 1877 in the 6th volume of the Lustige Komödienbüchlein . The play is about Casperl Larifari and his wife Grethl, who inherit unexpectedly and are then confronted with some problems.

1st division
At the beginning of the 1st division, Grethl and Mrs. Stritzlhuberin talk over coffee about the death of their neighbor Mrs. Hintermayerin, when the hunter Thomerl appears and submits that Casperl and Grethl have inherited money from the deceased. While Casperl is still toasting the inheritance in the “Blaue Bock”, a pub in the neighborhood, Grethl realizes that she and her husband now have to behave appropriately and elegantly. She immediately plans the money for new amenities and servants, as she no longer wants to run the household in the future.
When Casperl comes home later, they are both happy about the inheritance that the notary Stahlfeder brings them home shortly afterwards. Casperl immediately locks the money in her bedroom, fearing that it could be stolen by robbers and thieves. He's already beginning to hear supposed noises from intruders and he gets deeper into his fear. During the night Casperl cannot sleep and finally, for fear of a break-in, panics downright so that he calls for help. Casperl's calls for help and fire make the first company of the fire brigade aware and rush to help. Müller, the commandant of the fire brigade, reprimands Casperl for the false alarm. Casperl and Grethl, who have since been awakened by the chaos, try to talk their way out of it and claim that Casperl only had a bad dream. When the commandant leaves, Casperl also finds some rest and he and Grethl go to bed.
2nd division
The 2nd section of the piece begins with a large breakfast, with Casperl sitting. While he is having sausages, beer and wine, the shop girl Julie appears with a bill for Grethl's purchases. The new cook Lisi also arrives and is immediately given the order by Casperl to prepare a large meal while he goes to drink a few more beers in the "Blaue Bock".
Shortly afterwards, Grethl returns home with Ms. Stritzlhuberin and more shopping. Grethl is convinced that she is now very elegant and classy, just as she thinks it should be for people of her class. The two women are planning the upcoming meal when the policeman Schnuffler appears who wants to speak to Casperl. Shortly afterwards, he returns from the "blue goat" drunk and is angry about the supposedly disrespectful behavior of the policeman, so that he slaps him. The situation escalates when Schnuffler tries to arrest Casperl and they both start to fight. Notary Stahlfeder arrives and wants to reassure Casperl, but Casperl gets even more furious and lashes out wildly. Only when Lisi calls for dinner does Casperl pause and suddenly become very elegant. He would like to have dinner, but is first interrupted by Schnuffler, who imposes a fine on him for the nightly disturbance, and finally by the notary, who announces that Grethl's purchases and Casperl's drinking in the "blue goat" have exhausted the inheritance and only three Talers are left. Casperl finally wants to eat and beats Schnuffler and the notary out of his house with the help of the hunter Thomerl. While Grethl faints, shocked because of the loss of money, Casperl enjoys his life and good food and plans the last of his money for alcohol.
particularities
In Pocci's The Legacy you can find motifs that are already familiar from other of his puppet shows. So Casperl also changes his way of speaking here; sometimes he speaks in dialect, sometimes in standard German. In addition, many foreign words are used, mainly from the French area, but the characters often pronounce them incorrectly, which makes it seem slightly ridiculous and the characters only give the appearance of a higher education. The desire to drink and eat, which is often found in Pocci's puppet figures, can also be found again with this Casperl, which wastes a large part of the inheritance on drinking parties in a pub or spends it on large meals. In addition, as in other of Pocci's works, Casperl is once again very rowdy and ready to use violence.
