history

Students of the professor at the Kassel Art College, Ewald Dülberg , met in January 1923 under the name The Five . The avant-garde group included August Anhalt , Arnold Bode , Otto Julius Fleck , Karl Leyhausen and the Irishman Cecil Ffrench Salkeld . The loose group of artists combined a common artistic attitude and a common openness to modern painting.

There was some disintegration after Cecil ffrench Salkeld returned to Ireland in 1925 . In 1927 the remaining members of the group joined the newly founded Kassel Secession .
