The story of Uncle Willy from Golzow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Story of Uncle Willy from Golzow" (1995) is part of the long-term documentary The Children of Golzow , which was filmed in the GDR since 1961. A school class was accompanied during the last days of kindergarten, the entire school time and sometimes for its entire life. Barbara Junge and Winfried Junge could not consider all children equally. Willy Sommerfeld, who was once small and inconspicuous, is also an example of how interesting biographies sometimes only emerge over time.

At first ignored, the twelfth film in the Golzow saga and the second individual biography appeared with “The Story of Uncle Willy from Golzow”.

action

The boy who “wants to help people” attracted attention, in addition to his school career, above all because he was the first in the class to start a family. Winfried Junge accompanies Willy and his wife not only during their marriage or after the birth of their first two sons, but also during more difficult times. The divorce, for example, in which, as is customary in the GDR, they both still lived in the same apartment. That the children only realize such a step when the father is gone becomes clear from the conversations that the boy repeatedly has with his protagonists.

The situation, which is characterized by ups and downs in the relationship, only becomes clear when he decides to start over with the studied Jutta. Away from his children and only with the deepest sadness of his parents, who were always against the divorce and against the new wife, he moves to Graefenhainichen. From now on, Winfried Junge will still primarily accompany Willy, but will also accompany his ex-wife and children at the same time.

In the vicinity of Wittenberg and thus no longer within reach of his children, the work-enthusiastic man finally becomes an "uncle". His third child, who comes from his relationship with Jutta, addresses him by first name, but she also says he has no other rights because it is her child. He wanted to be useful to people, he said at an early age, and that's how he got involved, especially in his job. He spends a lot of time at work through further education, training and his general commitment.

In Willy's new relationship, this doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. Jutta and the agricultural engineer describe their relationship as balanced. If Junge asked further, it becomes clear that there are one or the other question where disagreements exist. For example, after a possible marriage.

His ex-wife, still a milker, had met a milker and remarried. Willy's father had already died, he had never accepted the divorce of the two. His mother still hadn't endorsed the changes in their lives either, but after Kevin's birth she had sought rapprochement. Junge accompanies "Uncle Willy from Golzow" even during the turning point, which he and Jutta now actively demanded after years of adjustment.

In the end, positive, the next recordings are all the more fateful. The LPG , in which both worked, was initially divided and later completely dissolved. Especially with Willy there was perplexity. The old profession, in which and for which both worked for a long time, offered no possibility of returning. After unemployment, Willy took on the job of driver. For Jutta only the path of retraining. At the son's request, filming was stopped soon afterwards. One last message reached Winfried Junge. Willy tells him on his answering machine that he will have to ask for Jutta Sommerfeld the next time he calls because they have married.
