Die Kinder is an eleven-minute German feature film in black and white by Edgar Reitz from 1967 with the children Christian Reitz and Johanna Usener in the lead roles. In the Federal Republic of Germany it first came to the cinema on March 21, 1967.

action

The camera only observes a six-year-old girl who is playing “adulthood” with other children. B. as a married couple. This has resulted in a study of human behavior in childhood. When making the film, Reitz proceeded in such a way that he gave the children a "task": to play adulthood.

Remarks

Edgar Reitz made this film with a view to his big feature film Meals , to which he was also shown in the supporting program. The film gives, so to speak, an introduction, a transition to the main film.

criticism

The Protestant film observer judges: “It is not a ' cinéma vérité '; the children notice that they are being filmed, but they play as naturally as they would play without a camera, only an occasional glance at the camera reveals that they are torn from the game for a moment in order, apparently, to play again to keep going. You can hear the original sound. Thinking and wishful clichés that prevail among adults already exist among children; This is shown by this little film, which gives cause for thought and which will be worthwhile to deal with. ”The Wiesbaden Film Evaluation Office gave the work the title“ Particularly valuable ”.
