The Legend of Ben Hall (Original title: The Legend of Ben Hall ) is an Australian anti-western based on the life and deeds of the bushranger Ben Hall . It premiered in Australian cinemas on December 1, 2016. In Germany, the film was released directly on DVD and Blu-ray on April 28, 2017.

action

When life as a robber makes one's own circumstances, always in conflict with the law and on the run from the police, increasingly difficult, Ben Hall doubts his fate. He decides to visit his ex-wife and son and seeks shelter with a friend. With the appearance of his old friend and gang member John Gilbert, he decides to continue his life as a criminal. With the addition of John Dunn to the gang, they decide to go on a raid as a trio. Soon after, they are wanted to become notorious robbers across Australia and by police across the country. After the murder of a police officer by John Dunn in a robbery, the morale of the trio deteriorated, as Hall did not become a murderer himself despite the use of firearms and, unlike his accomplice John Gilbert, he does not want to accept deaths in robberies. At the same time, the police decided to offer the three of them a bounty and declared them outlawed after a deadline. They then plan to leave Australia. Ben Hall and his accomplices visit his ex-wife and son one last time before all three are surprised by the police. Betrayed by Ben Hall's friend, with whom they found refuge again, they perish while fleeing from the police. The film ends by stating that, despite his hundreds of violent assaults, Ben Hall never became a murderer.

production

The director's priority during the production was the historically correct, truthful rendition of the last few years of Ben Hall with his accomplices as a gang of robbers. The film focuses on the private relationships of Hall and the gang, the conflicts with the police, as well as the circumstances that lead to the end of his life.
